If you can find the end, I'll send you a prize.

Oh I hate that! I've heard a few tricks that may or may not help. One is wrap some tape, sticky-side out, around your hand and tap over the bobbin. The other is to take a new toothbrush and lightly brush in the opposite direction that the single wound onto the bobbin. Good luck. When this happened to me--with my first lace-weight--I ended up just cutting, plying until I couldn't go any further then cutting again. It's a lot of joins but it's better than throwing it all away.

I've been there, many a time. It's part of the reason I got the Wooly Winder, though I have heard you can't do lace on it, you won't lose your end. I don't spin much lace anyway :-)
Darn darn darn I say!

LOL, Sheila, you're a hoot! Thanks for the advice, Jessica, and all the sympathy from everyone else! I have tried the tape thing, and the use of my fingernail, that's why the left end looks so wonky. I'll try the toothbrush trick and if that doesn't work, it's scissors for me!

Walk away for a while. Give it to someone else to try (preferably someone who loves to spend hours untangling yarn and is good at it.)
